SKATERS TO MAKE BIG SCREEN DEBUT OCTOBER 2ND.

            Two local women play roles in Drew Barrymore’s

new movie “Whip Itâ€? 

 

Grand Rapids, Michigan- - Tuesday, September 29th, 2009 - - Grand Rapids’ own Grand Raggidy Roller Girls roller derby league is in its fourth year of action and things could be heating up.  Drew Barrymore recently completed work on a new feature film “Whip It,â€? which includes women from the local roller derby team.  A special West Michigan premier event will happen this Friday at Celebration! Cinema North in Grand Rapids.

“Opening night of ‘Whip It’ will be electrifying,â€? said Steve VanWagoner, Vice President of Marketing for Celebration! Cinema. â€œMembers of the local roller derby league will watch the movie with us, talk to the audience about the film and sign autographs and photos.  It’s exciting when people living in our hometown make it to the big screen.â€?

The special premier movie event of “Whip It� will be Friday, October 2nd at 7p.m. at Celebration! Cinema North in Grand Rapids.

“Whip Itâ€? is the story of an ex-beauty pageant contestant (Ellen Page) that leaves her crowns behind after joining a roller derby team. It’s the directing debut for Barrymore. The movie is rated PG-13.  

A premier event of the movie and a meet-and-greet with the Grand Raggidy Roller Girls roller derby league will be held on Friday, October 2nd at 7p.m. at Celebration! Cinema North.
