(And Other Fun Facts For Inquiring Minds) THE SCREEN
- Our 50’ x 70’ screen is coated in a special silver paint, which directs the light reflected off of it for 3D films. There is enough paint on the screen to paint three 3-bedroom houses.
- The screen is flat, but has a slight curvature that helps extend it to the edge of people’s peripheral vision.
- The screen is constructed of a special diffused vinyl perforated with thousands of tiny holes. This allows sound to pass through freely, giving the screen ‘acoustical transparency.’
THE PROJECTION
- The unique Rolling Loop projector is the size of a small car and weighs 2,900 lbs.
- The projection lamp is 7,000 watts.
THE FILM
- The 15/70 film frame used by the IMAX projection system is 10X the Size of a conventional 35mm wide screen frame. Thus, the vivid images of IMAX result from 10X the detail and information on the film itself.
- The film is strong enough to pull a truck without breaking!
- A typical 45 minute large format 2D film is 3 miles long and weighs over 300 pounds. As for Beauty and the Beast and 3D films, They are HEAVY!
THE SOUND
- The soundtrack is separate from the film. It arrives on DVD and is copied to a hard drive, which is synchronized with the film by computer.
- A Sonics Proportional Point Source ( PPS ) loudspeaker system allows all members of the audience to experience superb sound quality regardless of where they may be seated. We have already encountered and heard from several blind guests who have come to our IMAX Theatre, purely for the sound experience!
3D TECHNOLOGY
- 3D effect is created by using 2 projectors to send 2 pictures to the screen. Without glasses, you would see ‘doublevision.’ The glasses separate the images so that you see one picture with one eye and the other with your other eye. The result is a picture with not only height and width, but also depth – 3 Dimensions: 3D.
